Justice Ben Land is a lifelong Georgian and a proud “Double Dawg” graduate of the University of Georgia. He excelled in Athens, where he finished first in his class as an undergraduate and second in his law school class of 202 students.
After a long and successful private law practice, Justice Land was appointed to the Superior Court bench on February 7, 2018. The voters of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit returned him to that position by election in 2020.
Justice Land was appointed to the Georgia Court of Appeals on July 20, 2022. He was elected to a full term in a statewide election in 2024 and served in that position until his appointment to the Supreme Court of Georgia on July 24, 2025.

A lifelong Georgian, Ben Land graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 1989, finishing with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He also graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1992, finishing second in his class of 202 students. While in Law School, he served on the Editorial Board of the Georgia Law Review, clerked for the Georgia Supreme Court, and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
Following Law School, Ben had a private law practice in Columbus, focusing on civil litigation and trial practice. During his nearly 26-year career as a private practice attorney, he obtained several record-setting jury verdicts on behalf of individuals injured at the hands of others, and he also played a key role in the defense of numerous nationwide class action lawsuits.
Justice Land has been active in his profession and his community. He has served on numerous community and law-related boards and has spoken on the topic of trial advocacy at statewide continuing legal education seminars. He has also spoken on various topics at his fellow judges’ judicial training conferences.
He was presented with the State Bar of Georgia's William B. Spann, Jr. Award for Pro Bono Advocacy for his efforts on behalf of a pro bono client whose case he successfully handled from the trial court level until its successful conclusion in the Georgia Supreme Court. Justice Land is a graduate of Leadership Columbus and has served as the President of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit Bar Association, President of the Columbus Bar Association, President of the Columbus Inn of Court, District Representative for the State Bar of Georgia's Younger Lawyers Division, and member of the Clarke-Carley Inn of Court and the Bleckley Inn of Court. He previously served on the Judicial Nominating Commission, the statewide body responsible for providing recommendations to the Governor concerning judicial appointments.
Outside of the practice of law, he has served as a board member for the Columbus Area Habitat for Humanity, a volunteer and board member for the Pine Mountain Trail Association, and a youth sports coach.
After being appointed by Governor Nathan Deal, Justice Land left the private practice of law and became a Superior Court judge on February 7, 2018. On June 9, 2020, the voters of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit elected him to continue serving in this role.
Justice Land was appointed by Governor Brian Kemp to the Georgia Court of Appeals and was sworn in on July 20, 2022. The voters of the state elected Justice Land to a full six-year term in an uncontested election on May 21, 2024.
On July 24, 2025, Justice Land was appointed by Governor Kemp to the Supreme Court of Georgia. His next election is in May of 2026.
